Dr Maureen Mitchell is a Specialist in Palliative Medicine, with a wide experience in supporting patients with complex symptoms, due to a terminal illness (malignant or non-malignant in nature), enabling them to be managed in their preferred place of care. She also has extensive experience and interest in providing support for symptom management for those with advanced cancer undergoing intensive treatment leading high symptom burden. She practices at Selangor Private Hospital and is available to admit patients for symptom control and end of life care, as well as review patients in the outpatient setting. She is also happy to provide advice to colleagues to assist with managing patients within the clinic setting (either via telehealth or by phone) or within the patient’s home, as required. A referral is required from an General Practitioner or Specialist to have a consultation with Dr Mitchell. It is preferred that the referrals be sent to Dr Mitchell via Medical Objects. A secure Medical Information Transmittal system.
Outpatient Consultations and Home visits
When a referral is received this practice will contact the patient to make an appointment to see Dr Mitchell. Outpatient appointments can be made for Selangor Private Hospital Specialist Suites, Nambour, on Tuesdays or at Sunshine Coast Hematology and Oncology Centre (SCHOC), Buderim, on Wednesdays. Home Visit Consultations are at the patients place of residence, if considered appropriate by Dr Mitchell, at times arranged in advance. Both Outpatient and Home Visit services attract an out of pocket expense. The services are billed by direct debit from the patients credit or debit card account by phone after the service. A Medicare claim is lodged by the practice on behalf of the patient. The rebate is paid directly to the patients normal account. This process uses the Australia Post Secure Pay system. The practice does not have access to the patients payment system. A transaction record is then issued, by email to the patient. Informed financial consent information is then emailed to the patient detailing all costs and out of pocket costs.
Inpatient Consultations
Inpatient consultations are provided for patients admitted to Selangor Private Hospital, Nambour and Sunshine Coast Private hospital, Buderim. All Inpatient Consultations are directly billed to the patients Private Health Insurer under Hospital, Practitioner and health fund agreements.
